Health and Safety Policy Statement

Artificial Intelligence University (AIU) is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all its students, staff, visitors, and others who may be affected by its activities. This policy outlines our approach to maintaining a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and relevant legislation.

1. Introduction

AIU recognizes that effective management of health and safety is essential to our success and sustainability. We are committed to complying with all legal requirements and will take all reasonable steps to provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment.

2. Aims and Objectives

  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and other relevant legislation.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage health and safety risks arising from our activities.
  • Training: Provide appropriate health and safety information, instruction, training, and supervision to ensure competence among staff and students.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and improve our health and safety performance.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all AIU activities within and outside the United Kingdom, including our London-based campus and any external locations used for AIU-related activities.

4. Governance

  • Overall Responsibility: The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for ensuring that health and safety management systems are implemented and maintained.
  • Delegation: The Vice-Chancellor may delegate specific health and safety responsibilities to senior staff but retains overall accountability.

5. Risk Assessment

  • AIU will conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
  • Risk assessments will be reviewed periodically and after any significant change in operations or following an incident.

6. Information, Instruction, and Training

  • All employees and students will receive necessary health and safety information and training relevant to their role and activities.
  • Training records will be maintained, and refresher courses will be provided as needed.

7. Emergency Procedures

  • AIU will establish and maintain procedures for dealing with emergencies, including fire, medical emergencies, and other significant risks.
  • Regular drills will be conducted to ensure readiness.

8. Accident Reporting and Investigation

  • All accidents, incidents, and near-misses must be reported to the designated health and safety officer.
  • Investigations will be conducted to determine the cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

9. Monitoring and Review

  • Health and safety performance will be monitored using both proactive and reactive indicators.
  • The policy will be reviewed annually or following significant incidents or legislative changes.

10. Communication and Consultation

  • AIU will engage with staff, students, and stakeholders to promote health and safety awareness and involve them in the continuous improvement of our practices.
  • Health and safety information will be accessible through the AIU intranet and other communication channels.

11. Responsibilities

  • Vice-President: Overall responsibility for health and safety management.
  • Health and Safety Officer: Day-to-day management of health and safety matters, including training, risk assessments, and policy updates.
  • All Staff and Students: Responsibility to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.

12. Review

This policy will be reviewed every three years or following significant changes in operations, legislation, or after any major incident.
