Safeguarding Policy

Introduction

Artificial Intelligence University (AIU) is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students, staff, and visitors. Safeguarding is a priority, and we are dedicated to protecting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. This policy outlines our safeguarding responsibilities and procedures.

1. Purpose and Scope

This policy applies to all members of the AIU community, including staff, students, contractors, and visitors. It covers all university activities, whether on or off-campus, including online learning environments.

2. Safeguarding Principles

  • Duty of Care: AIU acknowledges its responsibility to protect individuals from harm and to take appropriate action if there are concerns about their welfare.
  • Zero Tolerance: AIU operates a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, harassment, and exploitation. Any allegations will be treated seriously and dealt with in accordance with this policy.
  • Confidentiality: Safeguarding concerns will be handled with sensitivity and confidentiality, involving only those who need to know.

3. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): The DSL is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy, providing advice and support, and ensuring appropriate action is taken in safeguarding cases.
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads: Support the DSL and take on responsibilities in their absence.
  • All Staff and Students: Have a responsibility to report any safeguarding concerns to the DSL or their deputies.

4. Procedures

  • Reporting Concerns: Any concerns about the welfare of an individual must be reported immediately to the DSL. In cases of emergency, the police or relevant authorities should be contacted directly.
  • Response to Concerns: The DSL will assess the situation, make necessary referrals to external agencies (such as social services or the police), and ensure the individual is supported throughout the process.
  • Training: All staff and students will receive safeguarding training appropriate to their roles. This includes recognizing signs of abuse and knowing how to report concerns.

5. Safe Recruitment

AIU will follow safer recruitment practices, including appropriate checks (e.g., Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks) for all staff and volunteers working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults.

6. Monitoring and Review

The Safeguarding Policy will be reviewed annually or after any significant incident. AIU will ensure that lessons learned from safeguarding cases are integrated into policy and practice.
